  • As an educator in the field of public affairs and policy, with a focus on critical disaster studies, my teaching philosophy is rooted in three core principles: critical thinking, active learning, and empowerment. I believe that these elements are essential in preparing students to address complex societal challenges and to become engaged, thoughtful citizens and professionals.

  • As a reflective practitioner, I continuously evaluate and adapt my teaching methods based on:

    • Student feedback and learning outcomes

    • New developments in the field of public affairs and disaster studies

    • Emerging pedagogical research and best practices

    • The changing needs of our diverse student population

This commitment to ongoing improvement ensures that my teaching remains relevant, effective, and aligned with the evolving challenges of our field.

  • I firmly believe that students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process. In my classes, this takes several forms:

    • Case studies and scenario-based learning

    • Group discussions and debates on current policy issues

    • Simulation exercises that mimic real-world disaster situations

    • Collaborative research projects addressing local community challenges

These active learning strategies not only deepen understanding but also develop crucial skills in problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.
